Ms. Sharon Chong

Ms. Sharon Chong is a Partner at Skrine Advocates & Solicitors, Malaysia, and is a leading member of the firm’s Restructuring & Insolvency Practice. Sharon advises a wide range of clients on corporate restructurings, judicial management, schemes of arrangement, receiverships and liquidations under Malaysian insolvency law. She regularly represents financial institutions, insolvency practitioners, distressed companies and creditors in complex restructuring and insolvency proceedings, including cross-border matters.
Ms. Sharon has extensive experience in advising and acting for court-appointed liquidators, judicial managers and receivers, and has appeared before the Malaysian High Court and Appellate Courts in numerous insolvency, restructuring and corporate recovery proceedings. Her practice also includes advising on enforcement of security, distressed debt transactions and recovery strategies for lenders and investors.
Ms. Sharon is an active member of INSOL International and frequently contributes to discussions and professional forums on developments in insolvency and restructuring law in Malaysia and the wider Asia-Pacific region. She regularly speaks at industry conferences and professional training programmes for insolvency practitioners, lawyers and financial institutions, and is involved in initiatives aimed at strengthening insolvency and restructuring frameworks in the region.
Prior to becoming a Partner at Skrine, Ms. Sharon built her practice within the firm’s dispute resolution and insolvency teams, gaining deep experience in contentious and non-contentious restructuring matters. She is widely regarded for her ability to manage high-value and sensitive insolvency proceedings involving multiple stakeholders, including banks, regulators and cross-border creditors.
Some of her representative experience includes:
- Acting for court-appointed liquidators and judicial managers in the restructuring and liquidation of several Malaysian corporations across sectors, including manufacturing, property development and financial services.
- Advising financial institutions and creditors on the enforcement of security, recovery actions and participation in schemes of arrangement and judicial management proceedings.
- Representing distressed companies and their management in negotiations with creditors, formulation of restructuring proposals and court-sanctioned compromise arrangements.
- Advising on cross-border insolvency and recognition issues involving Malaysian companies and foreign creditors.
