Mr. Ravi Mital is the Chairperson of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), the statutory regulator established under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 to oversee insolvency processes, insolvency professionals, and related entities in India.

A 1986-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Bihar cadre, Mr. Mital holds a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Roorkee and an M.Phil. in Environmental Science from Cambridge University. Prior to assuming charge at the IBBI in February 2022, he superannuated as Secretary, Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and has served in several senior Government of India roles including Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Special Secretary, Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance.

Throughout his distinguished civil service career, Mr. Mital has held leadership positions across diverse ministries and departments, shaping policy and administration in areas including finance, communications, and social development. He has also served on the boards of major financial institutions such as State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, and GIC Re.

As IBBI Chairperson, he provides strategic and regulatory direction to strengthen India’s insolvency framework, including initiatives focused on creditor-led resolution mechanisms and enhanced efficiency in insolvency processes.

Mr. Mital’s leadership reflects a blend of deep administrative experience and a commitment to developing robust and responsive insolvency regulation in India.
