Mr. Prem Prabhakar

Chief Executive Officer, SBI Venture Capital

Mr. Prem Prabhakar is the Chief Executive Officer of SBI Venture Capital Limited (SBIVCL), the private equity and venture capital arm of the State Bank of India Group. He leads the firm’s investment strategy across growth equity, private equity, and alternative investment platforms, with a focus on identifying and nurturing high-potential businesses across financial services, infrastructure, manufacturing, technology, and emerging sectors. Under his leadership, SBIVCL plays a critical role in providing long-term capital and strategic guidance to Indian enterprises at various stages of growth.

Mr. Prabhakar brings extensive experience in banking, project finance, investment management, and corporate advisory. He has been closely involved in structuring, evaluating, and managing investments across multiple funds and portfolios, with particular expertise in financial services, stressed and turnaround assets, and large-scale infrastructure and industrial projects. He works closely with promoters, boards, and management teams to enhance enterprise value, improve governance standards, and support sustainable growth.

Before taking charge as CEO of SBI Venture Capital, Mr. Prabhakar held several senior leadership roles within the State Bank of India Group, where he gained deep exposure to corporate lending, risk management, credit appraisal, project financing, and strategic investments. His background in mainstream banking and capital markets gives him a unique perspective on balancing risk, returns, and long-term value creation in private equity and venture capital investments.

Mr. Prabhakar has been actively involved in developing India’s alternative investment ecosystem, including private equity and venture capital platforms backed by institutional capital. He regularly engages with policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, and industry stakeholders on issues relating to investment policy, financial sector development, and the growth of India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Through his leadership at SBI Venture Capital, he continues to drive investments that support innovation, financial inclusion, infrastructure development, and the scaling of Indian enterprises, while maintaining strong governance and risk management frameworks expected of an institution backed by India’s largest bank.
